What do I have to do after completing your course?

Learn how to verify your traffic school completion was processed by the court. Special instructions for out-of-state, commercial, and juvenile cases.

Updated today

If you have pled guilty, paid the court fine, traffic school administrative fee, and successfully completed traffic school by your due date, you have completed your traffic school requirement. However, you still have to complete one more step.

How to check if court received traffic school certificate

As per California DMV rules you are required to follow up on your case to make sure the court has successfully processed your traffic school completion and closed your case. Having this reassurance is the only way to be certain that you will not get a point. See this link on how to check the status of your case.

You don’t need to send or bring your certificate to the court (see exceptions below). The court will only accept our electronic submission of your traffic school completion.

Out of State and Federal Tickets

If your ticket is from another state, or a Federal Court, you must print out and mail your certificate to the court. We only electronically send certificates to California courts. We cannot fax or email traffic school completions to the DMV.

Commercial Drivers

If you complete Traffic Violator School (TVS), you must contact the DMV’s Mandatory Actions Unit (MAU) to request removal of the violation point from your record:

  • By Email: Send your request to dmvcdltvs@dmv.ca.gov. Be sure to include:

    • Your TVS completion certificate

    • Your driver’s license or ID number

    • A contact phone number

  • By Phone: Call the MAU at (916) 657-6525.

Important: Under Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations §384.226, the violation itself will remain visible on your driving record, even though the point can be removed.

Juvenile Court Cases

Some juvenile traffic courts require students to submit the traffic school certificate of completion directly to the court.
